Mother’s Care Children Hospital and Research Centre
Mother’s Care Children Hospital and Research Centre, (MCCHRC) Imphal, Manipur, established in the year 2004, is a Trust run hospital which aims at providing quality healthcare to newborn and paediatric patients. Pioneering as the first exclusive neonatal and paediatric oriented hospital in the region, MCCHRC thrives to reduce infant mortality rate not only in the state of Manipur but also of its neighbouring States by providing optimum care to newborn and consistently providing intensive neonatal care services thereafter till the baby is fit. The members of the Trust predominated by healthcare professionals, held the belief that with the provision of quality healthcare, many lives could be saved, thus, MCCHRC came into being. Lack of newborn care, rudimentary interventions and poor infrastructure were some of the characteristic description of state run hospitals in the region that irked the conscience of the Trust members. Many lives of newborn babies, especially of low birth weight babies which could have been saved with some degree of intervention were lost due to inadequate facilities. MCCHRC looked into the gaps and filled this void in healthcare.
The hospital had a humble beginning with just 5 beds; even then it was crucial to try and save as many lives as it was conceivable for the Institute at its infant stage. Realizing the importance and necessity for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the hospital ran a modest two bedded NICU at its inception in 2004.To ensure that we do not turn away any patients for lack of beds, through the years we have been striving to boost the number of beds made available to the patients. As of today, we are a 75 bedded dedicated paediatric hospital, of which there are 17 modular NICU beds and 7 PICU beds. With the establishment of the 17 bedded modular NICU, MCCHRC currently has the biggest NICU in the Northeast region of India and the first modular NICU in the entire eastern India.
MCCHRC currently has 7 (Seven) Paediatric consultants, 1(One) Neonatologist, 2 (Two) Paediatric Surgeons, 1 Cardiothoracic Surgeon employed as fulltime consultants and 4 (Four) Resident Medical Officers. There are 3 (three) full fledged operation theatres, two semimodular for paediatric surgery equipped with the latest generation laparoscopic platform (Stryker 1488), C Arm, Vessel sealers, bronchoscopic sets, cystoscopes, pneumatic lithoclast, dedicated pediatric workstation and many more state of the art gadgets for patients safety and one modular operation theatre dedicated to CTVS.
With expansion and addition of different units, the hospital has engaged skilled to highly skilled nursing staffs and technicians depending on the units.
